Vacuum belts wear out and stretch over time and will need to be replaced (fortunately vacuums belts are usually not too expensive). You may notice that your vacuum cleaner just isn’t picking up dirt and debris as well as it used to. This can be due to belt slippage. In some cases the belt can also break.
