 Avg. consumer rating = 85/100

The Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum is sometimes referred to as the Platinum Collection Cordless Stick Vac or sometimes simply the BH50010 (which is the model number).  It is a cordless and bagless stick vacuum cleaner and is the first stick vacuum to come equipped with Hoover’s WindTunnel technology. Also, out of the 13 retail sites we found with consumer ratings, not one had ratings that averaged less than 4 stars out of 5, and most were higher.

As indicated this is a bagless vacuum cleaner which means that it uses a dirt-cup instead of a disposable bag. There is a long standing debate about whether bagged or bagless vacuum cleaners are better – bagged tend to make it easier to dispose of the collected dirt, and it is cleaner to throw away the bag and put a new one in.  Bagless do not require purchasing and disposing of bags but it should be noted that they often have filters that need to be maintained or replaced and they rely on seals to prevent the dirt-cup from leaking.

The BH50010 is the first stick vacuum to come equipped with Hoover’s WindTunnel technology that, as explained by Hoover, is a system that lifts and traps dirt very efficiently (using three distinct air channels) without any scattering.  The unit uses rotating brushrolls to help pick up dirt in carpeting and these can be switched off (via a switch on the handle) to transition the vacuum to bare-floor surfaces.  This vacuum is very light, weighing in at 7.3 pounds.  The weight and cordless design make it very easy to move throughout the house while vacuuming.  The product dimensions are approximately 11”x8”x42”.

The Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum runs on an 18-volt Lithium Ion battery.  The battery is interchangeable and can be used with the Hoover LiNX Platinum Collection Hand Vacuum.  The vacuum is marketed as having “fade-free power”.  This is the result of using a Lithium-Ion Battery as opposed to the more traditional Ni-CD batteries in which power tends to fade over time.  Hoover also claim that the 18 Volt Lithium Ion batteries have about a three hour charge time compared to an 8-16 hour charge time for traditional Ni-CD batteries.  The battery is also Energy Star rated (environmentally friendly rating) as the result of the “smart charging” system in which charging stops when the battery is full – this conserves energy and protects the battery.   The vacuum also has a battery fuel gauge that shows remaining battery life.

Other vacuum cleaner features include an 11 inch wide nozzle, automatic height adjustment, edge cleaning bristles, and a low profile base and Extreme Recline Handle that allows for easy access under furniture.   The BH50010 can also stand up on it’s own and does not need to be leaned against furniture or a wall.  It carries a two-year limited warranty on the vacuum and a two-year limited warranty on the battery and charger.

Reviews of consumer comments indicate that in general consumers feel the vacuum is a good buy.  High consumer ratings (table below - updated 2016) also show that most owners like their Linx stick vac.

This is the BEST stick vac out there . I have 4 dogs so I need to vaccum often and this picks up amazingly, both on hard floor and carpet. If you want a longer running time just purchase a spare battery so there is always one ready to go. My only dissapointment was that WalMart where I purchased it no longer has the filters, but you can order them on line.I give this a 5 star rating

Love the vacuum because for the size it really picks up the dirt & lint from the floor and carpet. Unfortunately, I am not happy about the short battery span. I think for the price of the battery one should get at least a thiry-minute run from the battery which is on the charger for up to three hours. In barely over a minute I am already running on \"two blue lights\"...not good!

I totally agree with Debby Fields response. Had I known that I would only get 15 minutes of vacuuming out of this piece of equipment, I never would have purchased it. I have a lot of tile flooring in my house and I can\'t even get one room vacuumed! I had to go buy another brand to do what I wanted it for in the first place. To have to wait for 3 hours before I can use it again is totally ridiculous!

I love this vacuum its light, easy and picks up great. I have central vac but for day to day messes the kids make this vacuum is the best (I hate dragging that huge cord out). It picks up cat hair really well too. I don\'t find the battery life too short. I can do a quick over on most of my 2000ft main floor with it. It does last longer if you just have the suction on and not the beater bar.

I LOVE THIS STICK!! It\'s easy to use and gets the job done. No, it\'s not for the big clean, it\'s for the in-between. It\'s also good for doing area rugs that my big vac just sucks up, you know what I mean.
This little stick is powerful enough that it will suck the corners of area rugs up too. But I just angle the wand so it\'s not square to the corners and bingo!
I like that I can do a quick \"sweep\" with this stick, like when my doggies bring in that extra bit of stuff, or when company is coming over fast and I just need to top off the surface.

The battery lasts waaay long enough to do everyting I require. Clean up of the bagless canister is a breeze! I\'m amazed how much crud this baby picks up! I couldn\'t be happier! Get one!

You have to make sure that you DON\'T LEAVE THE BATTERY IN THE CHARGER. Run the battery out completely before charging it up again and put it back in the vacuum and leave it there until it dies. You\'ll be able to use it a lot more this way. It works like a laptop battery the more you keep it charging the harder it is on it to hold life.

One of the WORST things you can do to a Li-ion battery is to run it out completely all the time! Once a month is sufficient, but only if you don\'t use it much. This is only barely comparable to a laptop battery, because this unit will drain a battery in 10-20 min, which conditions the battery. True, if you NEVER use this devise and just let it sit in the charger, it will decrease the battery life, but who cares, you don\'t use it anyway!

The Advisor article above states, \"It carries a two-year limited warranty on the vacuum and a two-year limited warranty on the battery and charger.\"; however, the Hoover video/commercial states that it comes with a six year warranty. Which one is true?

Hi Jodi,

We found that the Hoover website says the vacuum carries a 2-year warranty.

Best vac I\'ve ever bought. Lightweight, powerful and probably as hassle free as you can get because it is bagless and cordless. I would like the dirt bucket to be larger and wish it didn\'t jam so easily because of the small opening to the dirt bucket. Nevertheless, I\'d buy it again in a minute.
