Bissell Vacuum Reviews
Bissell Inc. began in the late 1800's in Michigan. Today the company is still headquartered in Michigan and is now the largest manufacturer of floor care products in North America. They manufacture stick vacs, canisters, uprights, handhelds and carpet cleaners. The units often have a focus on households with pets and are usually affordable with slightly better than average consumer ratings (but not always). Bissell vacuums have appeared in our lists of best vacuums under $100 and best vacuums under $200.

Bissell makes some good handhelds that are affordable. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser lithium ion cordless vacuum is another one of these. This bagless purple handheld (grapevine purple with black accents to be exact) sports a powered brushroll tool and is very capable at pulling up pet hair and all manner of embedded debris. It also comes with a crevice tool and an upholstery tool. Owners are pleased with the unit’s light weight and strong suction, but there is some grumbling about the long recharge time.

The Bissell Zing 2156A canister vacuum is compact and lightweight. It generates remarkably strong suction for a vacuum its size and owners like that it is not too loud, and that it has washable filters. It also has an automatic rewind power cord and is a very affordable vacuum cleaner – usually in the neighborhood of $50. However, due to the size of the vacuum it is not the best fit for large house cleaning. It is more suited for a small home or apartment. It is also not designed to handle medium or deep pile carpet. Consider the 2156A if you have a small home with mostly bare floors and some area rugs.

If you are looking for good bang for your buck, the Bissell CleanView Rewind Deluxe model 1819 may fit the bill. This vacuum is designed for bare floors, low & high pile carpet, stairs, upholstery, and even pet hair. It is also affordable and can often be found for under $120. The 1819 is a bagless upright and has a wide cleaning path, scatter-free technology, a turbobrush tool, and an automatic rewind power cord - a great feature not often seen on an upright. The brushroll cannot be turned off however, and the vacuum doesn’t maneuver as well as machines that use swivel steering.

The Bissell Zing 1668 is a small, bagged canister vacuum. It is lightweight, compact and easy to carry. It is designed for bare floors, rugs and carpet but performance on carpet isn’t particularly good as the floor nozzle does not have a brushroll. It does perform fairly well on bare surfaces however and the unit is very affordable at well under $100. This vacuum is very similar to the Bissell Zing 4122, and we believe it is actually the replacement for the 4122.

The Bissell 1535 OptiClean canister vacuum is adored by some owners but disliked by others. Folks who are happy with their machine point to its light weight, ease of use, and compact size, however those less enthusiastic allude to problems with suction, poor performance on carpet, and limited cleaning reach. Overall consumer ratings for the 1535 are a little disappointing but the vacuum is quite affordable.

The Bissell 1984 Air Ram vacuum is a cordless, bagless upright. Its extreme light weight and swivel steering make it very maneuverable and easy to lift. It is designed for carpet and bare floors and most owners are pleased with the suction power. The dust canister is easy to empty and also has a feature to push dust/debris out. It has a respectable run time of about 30 minutes on a charge. It is not great on deep pile carpet however and it does not come with a HEPA filter. Also, the Air Ram is compact and it may be better suited for a small home, dormitory or apartment.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser (model 1650A) is a bagless, corded upright vacuum cleaner. As the name suggests it is designed for households with pets and while it can also be used on bare floors, it excels at removing pet hair from carpet. Specialized features include an effective tangle-free brushroll, a system that separates hair from debris which helps when emptying the dust canister, a Febreze filter for removing pet odor, and a sealed filtration system. These all work fairly well and result in a good pet hair vacuum, however this machine is quite heavy and the hose & wand assembly is a little short.

The Bissell Symphony Pet Vacuum and Steam Mop (model 1543A) is popular and getting great ratings from owners. You can actually vacuum and mop at the same time with this machine. It has 3 cleaning modes: Steam, Vacuum, Steam & Vacuum. It is a good choice for households with pets and excels at picking up pet hair and removing paw prints. It doesn’t require any chemicals or detergent and cleanup is fairly easy. Vacuum suction is not spectacular however and it doesn’t mop tight into corners.

The Bissell Aeroswift 1009 is a small, compact vacuum cleaner and is good for those with an apartment or small area to clean. This is also a very affordable unit and we’ve seen it available for $50-$70. It includes an optional Febreze filter which helps eliminate odors and also leaves behind a fresh, clean smell after vacuuming. The size of the machine is both a pro and a con. It is lightweight and easy to carry but it also has a short hose/wand and the dust canister is quite small resulting in the need for frequent emptying. It also does not come with HEPA filtration.

It is very similar to the Bissell CleanView 9595 but has a new brushroll designed for better pickup (according to Bissell). The vacuum is very reasonably priced and is usually under $100. The Bissell 1534 is a cordless, bagless vacuum that is somewhere between an upright and a stick vac. If you are expecting an upright then you will feel this vacuum is very lightweight. If you are expecting a stick vac then you may feel the 1534 is on the heavy side. As it is not entirely a full size vacuum it isn’t a good fit as the sole machine for a large home (canister fills quickly and narrow cleaning path width). This, like most compact vacuums, is best for quick, smaller cleaning jobs. If you know what you are buying this vacuum can be a good choice. If you expect something else you may be disappointed.

The Bissell 1161 Hard Floor Expert is a bagless canister vacuum designed for cleaning hard surfaces such as tile, wood or linoleum. It can also clean carpet but is only useful on very low pile carpet and area rugs. The 1161 is also lightweight so it is easy to maneuver and carry, and it is compact so it doesn’t require much storage space. Its small size may limit its practicality in larger homes however, and the short power cord frustrates some owners.

The Big Green scored a staggering 97.1 out of 100 and owners report that it does a fantastic job of cleaning carpet and upholstery. It is also very easy and straightforward to use. The Bissell PowerGlide Pet upright is getting some respectable ratings from consumers although not all of them are thrilled. It comes with a lift-off feature that allows for portable cleaning. This feature, far from being a gimmick, has proved to be a real asset when cleaning stairs or cleaning overhead. Unfortunately the vacuum does not have HEPA filtration or manual height adjustment but it does carry a lengthy 5-year limited warranty.

The Bissell CleanView 9595 is a fairly inexpensive bagless upright but it still includes a nice array of tools and it carries a 2-year warranty. This is a very inexpensive canister vacuum cleaner and consumer ratings are quite good. But the machine is far from perfect. It is best suited for smaller area cleaning and it does not excel on carpet. Also the fit and finish are not exemplary and a number of owners complain that it feels cheap and plasticky. Having said that, for its low price tag it does deliver with respect to bare floor cleaning and many owners praise the unit for being lightweight and having strong suction. It is sometimes seen online for less than $65.

This is an inexpensive (about $50.00) and fairly simple stick vacuum manufactured by Bissell. It is somewhat innovative in that it has a v-shaped nozzle that is designed to direct larger debris to the units main suction area while the arms of the v pick up the finer dust and particles. The 81L2 is a corded, bagless upright that is light, manueverable and good on hard surfaces but it has limited effectiveness on carpet and some owners feel it is a bit loud.

An economical carpet cleaner that does a good job for spot cleaning and smaller carpeted areas. The Bissell 2080 is also lightweight and very easy to assemble and use. Consumers, while giving the vacuum positive reviews, have indicated that it may have limitations if you intend to use it to clean very large carpeted areas. Bissell has been making cleaning tools since 1876 and is renowned for its carpet-cleaning products.
