Avg. consumer rating = 81/100

The Dyson DC14 All-Floors comes with a motorized brushbar, the standard Dyson Root Cyclone technology (ensuring strong and continous suction) and a lifetime HEPA filter.  Coupled with a 5-year warranty this makes for a decent vacuum cleaner and consumer ratings bear this out.

Dyson DC14 All-Floors Features

As the name states the DC14 All-Floors is designed for all floor types.  The motorized brushbar can to turned on or off (controller on the cleaner head).  With the brushbar on the vacuum is effective in picking up debris and hair from carpets, and with the brushbar off one can be assured that delicate floors or rugs will be protected.

As with other Dyson’s the DC14 uses Root Cyclone technology to create it’s suction (280 air watts of power - according to Dyson.  This figure ranges from 250 to 280 on the multitude of sites advertising this vacuum).  According to Dyson this technology ensures that the vacuum cleaner doesn’t lose suction.  Cyclonic suction involves spinning air at very high speed to throw dirt and dust out of the airflow and into the collection bin.  This technology does not require bags and Dyson claim the vacuum will not lose suction.  The Dyson has pre-motor and post-motor filters.  The pre-motor filter can be washed and the post motor filter is good for the lifetime of the vacuum.  It should be noted that all Dyson are bagless and come with washable filters or washable filters.  This is marketed as “cost-saving” – although some bagged vacuum aficionados would argue the point.  You may wish to read about bagged and bagless vacuums in our Vacuum Guide.

The Dyson DC14 also uses a lifetime HEPA filter.  What exactly is a HEPA filter?  A HEPA filter (high efficiency particulate air) is a high-efficiency air filter that is capable of removing at least 99.97 percent of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers or larger.  These filters are used for many applications in the nuclear and biomedical industries but have more recently found a home in the newer vacuum cleaner models.  They are especially helpful to those suffering from asthma and allergies.  The DC14 is certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation.

This Dyson comes with several tools:

- Stair tool (for cleaning stairs and stair carpets)
- Brush tool (brush with long bristles for removing cobwebs or doing delicate cleaning)
- Crevice tool (provides high velocity airflow and useful for cleaning baseboards and in-between furniture)

Other DC14 features include a telescopic wand that can stretch out to 17 feet, an easy to empty 0.71 gallon dirt-container (empties through the bottom at the touch of a button), and a 35.4 foot power cord.  The dimensions of the Dyson DC14 are H 44.9” x W 14.0” x D 13.4”, at weighs 18.5 lbs and it comes with a respectable 5-year parts and labor warranty.

What are Consumers Saying?

PROS
- Strong suction (like most Dysons)
- Ergonomics are good
- Dirt Container very easy to empty
- Easy to maneuver
- Long cord
- HEPA filter

CONS
- No retractable cord
- Extendable hose is stiff and awkward to use
- Pricey
- Attachment quality and functionality only average

Consumer ratings from key sources indicate the following consumer sentiment for the Dyson DC14:

 Source  Consumer Rating  #Ratings
 Amazon  4.0 stars out of 5  133
 Walmart  4.26 stars out of 5  76
 Epinions  4.0 stars out of 5  96
 Abt  4.5 stars out of 5  2

Consumers also comment that the DC14 is, in general, an improvement over the DC07 - being generally much more user friendly.  However it does have a slightly shorter power cord and a smaller dirt container (there seems to be disagreement as to whether the DC14 has a 7% reduction in power from the DC07 or not - Dyson website figures would indicate it does not however many other sources indicate that it does).

A Dyson DC14 Users Manual is available at the Dyson website.
