In this review we look at the Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus cordless handheld vacuum, model CH951. This lithium-ion battery powered vacuum is touted as a lightweight machine for cleaning the home, office, boat or car as well as homes with pets. It includes a motorized tool with a self-cleaning brushroll that is designed to pick up pet hair without tangling. We walk through all the vacuum features and test both the motorized and non-motorized tools on a host of different debris and surfaces.

Many consumers have weighed in on the Shark Rocket HV292 and the results are encouraging. Reviews are very good and the average rating is 92.3 out of 100, making it the highest rated handheld vacuum on our site (tied with the more expensive Dyson Mattress). The HV292 is corded so there is no need to charge it, and there is no limit to the run time. It includes several tools, one of which has a motorized brushroll which is great for picking up pet hair, cleaning upholstery, and doing carpeted stairs. Owners are using this in their homes, RVs, and cars. However it does not come with a HEPA filter.

The new Shark ION W1 cordless handheld vacuum gets big marks for sleek and stylish design. It looks good just sitting on your countertop or shelf. But does it back that up with performance? We were pleasantly surprised at how well this small, lightweight handheld worked. It is powerful for its size and in most instances pickup was good. The recharge time is also very reasonable. In addition, it has a washable filter and is easy to empty. On the downside, the dust canister is rather small and it does not come with a motorized tool which can be helpful when dealing with ground-in debris and pet hair.

The Dyson V7 Trigger handheld vacuum is designed for quick pickups around the home and is also handy for cleaning vehicle interiors. It is light weight, easy to operate, and it did an admirable job of picking up all manner of debris from our tile floors and carpet. The mini motorized tool also proved capable at pulling up pet hair. Run time (in low power mode) is quite long for a cordless vacuum and our tests showed that actual run times were even longer than the figures provided by Dyson. Recharge time is also reasonable at only 3.5 hours. However, the run time in Max mode is still rather short and we would have like to see a wall mount included in the package.

The Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Hand Vacuum is designed for households with pets. It comes with several tools one of which is a motorized brush tool that excels at pulling up pet hair from carpet and upholstery. The vacuum is not too loud and is also quite lightweight. However, it doesn`t come with a stand and it takes about five hours to fully charge the battery when it is out of juice.

In this review we look at the Black and Decker Pivot Vacuum 20V Max, model BDH2000PL. This 20 volt version of the popular handheld uses a Lithium-Ion battery (provides fade-free power). Owners are pleased with the suction, the compact size of the unit, and the pivoting nozzle which allows access to areas that would otherwise be difficult to vacuum. Folks also highlight that the BDH2000PL looks rather sleek and sophisticated in its charging cradle. However, the quality of the vacuum seems average at best and owners have found themselves dealing with motor issues, battery issues, and dust canister issues.
The Dyson V6 Absolute is a very popular stick vacuum at this time and we have also rated it the best "top-end" stick vacuum in 2016 (see our Best Stick Vacuums list). We have reviewed the vacuum in detail here - Dyson V6 Absolute Review - but thought it might be helpful to put together a few quick videos highlighting the machine's pros and cons. In the videos we address things like size of the dust canister, emptying the dust canister, filters, suction power, battery life, size of the vacuum, cleaning ability on pet hair, and several other areas. The Absolute is the pinnacle of the V6 series of vacuums (2017 update: there is now a newer V8) and if you are in the market for one of these machines the videos in this article should help you better understand what you can expect.

The Dyson V6 Mattress is much more than a handheld vacuum for mattresses. This powerful unit is really an all-round handheld which happens to include, amongst its tools, a mattress tool as well as a HEPA filter and whole machine filtration. In addition, it’s powerful motor makes it capable of pulling up all manner of debris from sofas, mats, pillows, blankets, car seats, and yes, mattresses. The V6 mattress gets very good reviews and ratings from owners and it has a solid, durable feel to it. It is a little on the expensive side however, and it also doesn’t come with a wall mounting unit.

The Black & Decker BDH2000L handheld vacuum is getting good ratings from consumers. But like most other good handhelds it is not cheap and presently costs in the neighbourhood of $90. It is powered by a Lithium Ion battery which provides a respectable run time and the unit also charges more quickly than some of the older handhelds. In general owners are pleased with the BDH2000L although there is some discontent regarding the noise level.

The Dirt Devil AccuCharge (model BD10045RED) is a cordless handheld vacuum powered by a 15.6V NiCd battery. Consumer ratings are fairly good and the handheld is reasonably priced. Run time is in the neighbourhood of 10 minutes and the AccuCharge system not only helps save energy but it also decreases charging time. It is easy to operate and maintain but it is a bit noisy and some folks also feel that it is heavy.

Black & Decker manufacture a host of Dust Buster handheld vacuums and the CHV1410L is the top model (at the time of this writing). The CHV1410L is a highly rated Dust Buster on Amazon and owners like the machine's built in nozzle extension, quick recharge capability and long battery life. However some folks report that the charger light is distractingly bright and others lament that the unit doesnt come with a wall mount.

When the Dyson DC34 was first released consumers were not that impressed and ratings were not particularly good. However over the past several years ratings have continued to climb, perhaps as consumers have gotten used to the futuristic design and features. Consumer ratings for this machine are now quite good. The DC34 is lightweight and has a reasonable amount of power but owners often complain of the short run time - a common complaint with the Dyson handheld and stick vacs.

This is a similar handheld vacuum to the Hoover BH50015 but it is geared towards households with pets. It comes with a specialized pet hair tool and is getting very solid consumer reviews and ratings. It is a cordless and bagless unit that comes with fade-free power - the result of using a lithium-ion battery. Many owners also feel the battery charge lasts a reasonable amount of time.

The Dyson DC31 Handheld vacuum is widely available but consumer reviews and ratings at this time are sparse. Having said that, those that can be found are not too bad. It seems the DC31 is an improvement over the DC16, Dyson's first handheld attempt.

In the past few years Euro-Pro has produced a number of vacuum cleaners that have become consumer favorites. Existing owner feedback suggests that the new Shark Lift-Around may be the next favorite on the list. This is a portable, canister-like, bagless machine that is designed to make vacuuming of hard-to-clean areas easier. Owners like its extreme light weight, portability, powerful suction and cleaning flexibility. On the downside it really isnt a vacuum designed for large floor area cleaning.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Hand Vac is designed to vacuum up pet hair. Consumer comments indicate that this handheld does exactly what it was designed to do. It also gets very good ratings from those who have used the machine - typically about 9 out of 10. It is one of the better-rated handhelds that we have had the opportunity to review. Another plus is that it is inexpensive.

The Hoover Linx Cordless Hand Vac is part of the Hoover Platinum Collection. It uses an 18 volt lithium ion battery that provides fade-free power. This is a powerful and stylish handheld vacuum with a very long battery life and a 2-year warranty, but it is not cheap.

This hand held vacuum cleaner truly looks like a winner. There are great reviews all around. Detailed information is limited but this is in part due to the fact that this is a pretty simple vacuum with no fancy features to expound upon. If you are looking at vacuum cleaner ratings you will find that consumers report the Eureka 71A gets the job done. Note that the 71A has been replaced by the 71B which is virtually the same handheld vacuum.
