Avg. consumer rating = 65/100

The Hoover S3670 WindTunnel Bagged Canister vacuums gets good grades from some consumers and poor grades from others.  People like the vacuum'’s strong suction and stylish looks but are unhappy with its poorly designed hose and overly-plastic construction.

Consumer ratings from several popular websites are provided below.  It seems the Hoover S3670 is liked by some and disliked by others, with most ratings less than 4 stars out of 5.  The overall score is rather low.

The S3670 is another bagged Hoover vacuum cleaner.  There is an on-going debate about the virtues and drawbacks of bagged and bagless vacuum cleaners.  Bagless vacuum cleaners use a "dirt container" that is filled, emptied and re-used.  Bagged vacuum cleaners use a disposable bag to collect debris, and when the bag is full it is removed, thrown away and replaced.  .  It is typically easier to dispose of collected dirt and debris with a bagged vacuum cleaner, however these require the purchasing and "throwing away" of bags.  With a bagless vacuum cleaner it can be more of a chore to empty the dirt container (while keeping yourself and surroundings clean), however you do not have to purchase or toss away bags.  It should be noted however that bagless vacuums often have filters that need to be maintained or replaced and they rely on seals to prevent the dirt-container from leaking.  It seems to come down to personal preference and some consumers swear by bagless while others feel bagged machines make more sense.  The Hoover S3670 comes with an electronic full-bag indicator so that you do not have to continually open the unit and check the bag to determine when it needs replacing.

As the name states the S3670 Windtunnel vacuum uses Hoover’s patented Windtunnel technology.  According to Hoover engineers, Windtunnel technology is a system that lifts and traps dirt very efficiently (using three distinct air channels) without any scattering.   Consumers do report that the unit has excellent suction and they are fairly impressed with its ability to pick up debris.  The unit uses a 12 amp motor.

Like many other vacuums today, the S3670 comes with HEPA filtration.  If one has asthma or allergies getting a quality vacuum with HEPA filtration may be a good idea.  This level of filtration is often available with an upright or canister vacuum and sometimes with a stick vacuum.   HEPA filtration removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it.  The key here is that the filters are only able to filter the air that passes through them and many vacuums leak air but still tout the value of their HEPA filtration.  HEPA filters work most effectively within a sealed system (which some vacuums have, and others do not – we have not read that the S3670 has a sealed system).  The S3670 takes Hoover Type S HEPA Vacuum Bags.

The Hoover S3670 has a 15 inch wide power nozzle (fairly wide from our experience) and a brushroll that can be turned on and off allowing for transition from carpet to bare floors.  The unit also has variable suction control (via illuminated LED’s) – a feature noted by several consumers as a “nice to have”.   The hose (the quality of which is a major contention with those who purchased the vacuum) is 7 feet long and can swivel a full 360 degrees.  The vacuum also sports several on-board tools:

- Hard floor brush
- Upholstery brush
- Powered hand tool
- Crevice tool

Edge cleaning bristles allow the S3670 to vacuum tight up against baseboards, and the quick release telescopic wand disconnets easily to allow changing from wand to tools rapidly.   The vacuum also has a headlight – a feature we see on a number of Hoover vacuums and one which many people like.   The power cord is retractable and is 25 feet long (a little short in our opinion, but not too bad).   The Hoover S3670 weighs in at 15.5 lbs for the main unit and 24 lbs in total – many a consumer feel the vacuum is heavy.  It has the following dimensions: (H x W x D) 28.5” x 13.5” x 16.25” and comes with a 3-year limited warranty.  A few other Hoover vacuums, like the Hoover UH30010COM, have a 6-year warranty.

Consumer comments indicate the following common likes and dislikes regarding the Hoover S3670 vacuum:

PROS
- Plenty of suction power
- Extra-wide floor brush works well
- Easy to assemble out of the box
- Suction power control is a nice feature
- Stylish machine

CONS
- Lost of plastic in construction (doesn’t “feel” overly durable)
- Hose not flexible enough (can crimp and doesn’t move easily)
- Unit is heavy
- A few comments that the retractable cord does not retract well
- Vacuum on/off is on the canister
