The Hoover UH70015 has lifetime washable filters (with HEPA), very strong suction and a lengthy warranty of 6 years. This vacuum used to be fairly expensive (400+USD) rivaling the price of a Dyson, but the price has come down lately (less than 300USD through some sources).
The UH70015 is bagless meaning it uses a "dirt container" that can be removed, emptied and re-used (as opposed to a disposable bag). There is a long standing debate about whether bagged or bagless vacuum cleaners are better. It is typically easier to dispose of collected dirt and debris with a bagged vacuum cleaner, however these require the purchasing and "throwing away" of bags. With a bagless vacuum cleaner it can be more of a chore to empty the dirt container (while keeping yourself and the surroundings clean), however you do not have to purchase or toss away bags. It should be noted however that bagless vacuums often have filters that need to be maintained or replaced and they rely on seals to prevent the dirt-container from leaking. There is typically no clear winner here and folks tend to swear by one or the other.
The UH70015 also has a lifetime washable filter made with HEPA media. What is a HEPA filter? This item shows up in many discussions of vacuum cleaners and you have probably already read about these filters many a time. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is a filter that removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it. HEPA filtration is particularly popular with allergy sufferers and produces cleaner indoor air than standard or allergen media. The vacuum also has a Lifetime Washable Filter reminder that tells you when it is time to clean the filter.
Suction is provided by Hoovers patented Windtunnel Technology. This technology, according to Hoover engineers, is a system that lifts and traps dirt very efficiently (using three distinct air channels) without any scattering. Hard to tell what this really means but consumers have indicated that this vacuum does have very strong suction (this is a 12 amp machine). The UH70015 also comes with something called an Embedded Dirt Finder that uses a sonic sensor to determine high dirt areas. The Dirt Finder light runs red when a high dirt area is determined. The light will stay red until the area has been sufficiently cleaned at which time the light turns green.
