Hoover Windtunnel MAX UH30600
- Details
Avg. consumer rating = 75/100
Ratings for the Hoover UH30600 used to be very high but they have dropped in the past few years. Consumer ratings are now somewhat average. The UH30600 is a bagged upright designed for both carpet and bare floors. It has HEPA filtration, a long power cord, a range of on-board tools, and seven different height settings. Owners feel that it has outstanding suction and that it is not too expensive (about $150 at certain outlets). Some consumers find it a bit heavy however.
Owner ratings are provided in the table below. These were updated in 2016.

Consumer comments also provide insights into the UH30600 likes and dislikes and these are compiled below:
PROS
- Very strong suction
- Long power cord
- Long stretch hose
- Filters are washable
- Air powered hand tool works well
- Reasonably priced
- Easy access to belt and brushroll is nice (no screwdrivers needed)
- Effective on pet hair
- Assembly is simple
- Bags are easily installed, removed and discarded
CONS
- Heavy (but has a carrying handle)
- A bit noisy
- Attachments sometimes fall off vacuum
- HEPA bags are a bit pricey
- Some folks report that the strong suction and weight make the vacuum a bit difficult to move (but many also report that the machine is easy to maneuver). The discrepancy here may be because some owners have the height settings much lower than others.

The UH30600 is a bagged upright vacuum cleaner and it uses Hoover Type Y 3M HEPA Vacuum Bags. These bags provide HEPA level filtration which is popular with those suffering from allergies or asthma. HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration removes some 99.97% of particles with a diameter of 0.3 microns or larger. This includes the likes of pollen, dust mite feces, ragweed, etc. There are also two filters on the vacuum a secondary filter before the motor and a final filter just before the air is exhausted from the vacuum. Both of these are washable.
The vacuum bags are quite easy to install, remove and discard. The bag is attached to the inside of the front cover of the vacuum and this cover can easily be released (providing access to the bag) with one hand. In addition, removing and disposing of the bag is managed by a patented system that helps limit ones exposure to dust and dirt. This involves using something Hoover calls Clean-Drop Bags. This approach allows one to lift the bags from the vacuum without touching them - they remain attached to the vacuum front cover and can then be dropped directly into the trash via the single push of a button. One does not have to handle the bag in any way. There is also a bag check indicator to tell you when the bag requires changing.
Like many full size vacuums the UH30600 is powered by a 12 amp motor. It uses WindTunnel MAX technology which, according to Hoover, provides 3 suction channels and limits any scattering of dust or debris - a rather vague description at best, but consumers agree that this machine does provide excellent suction. Strong suction is a great feature but it should also be pointed out that the UH30600 does not have suction control so vacuuming more delicate items like drapes could be an issue.
The vacuum has been designed for cleaning both hard surfaces and carpet. It has a brushbar with on/off control (via a foot pedal) which allows one to turn the brushbar on for carpet cleaning and off for bare floor cleaning. The unit also has 7 different height settings allowing the user to set the nozzle to an optimal distance from the floor surface for both cleaning and vacuum mobility.
On board tools include:
- An air-powered hand tool
- A crevice tool (12 inches in length)
- A combination upholstery and dusting brush
- A telescopic wand (made of plastic)
In many of our vacuum cleaner reviews we point out that - in our opinion - a power cord should be at least 30 feet in length. The UH30600 meets this requirement and has a power cord exactly 30 feet long. The length of the cord is mentioned by a number of owners who feel that its length provides sufficient vacuuming coverage between outlet changes. The cord does not automatically retract however and it stores on a cord reel on the vacuum.

Most consumers find that the stretch hose is sufficiently long to allow them to vacuum stairs and ceilings. The stretch hose is a full 15 feet (180 inches) in length, and with the telescopic wand it provides about 17 feet of cleaning reach. In addition, the cleaning path width of the Hoover UH30600 is 15 inches. This is quite wide when compared to most other uprights and provides for a wide swath of cleaning with each pass of the nozzle.
Additional vacuum features include vacuum power on/off at your fingertips (on the vacuum handle), a headlight for vacuuming in dimly lit areas, and easy access to the belt and brushbar. With many vacuums one needs a screwdriver to get at the belt or the brushbar but the UH30600 has been designed to provide easy access to this area of the vacuum. Two levers are flipped and both the belt area and brushroll are exposed. The brushroll comes out to aid in a belt change or for cleaning. According to consumers this easy access system works well.
One area in which some consumers indicate discontent is the vacuum weight. The Hoover Windtunnel MAX Bagged Upright UH30600 weighs a hefty 18.4 lbs. Some owners feel it is difficult to carry this unit up and down stairs (although it does come with a convenient carrying handle). 18.4 lbs is heavier than most uprights but not drastically so in our opinion. A lighter but similar machine is the Hoover UH30300. The UH30600 carries a 2 year warranty.
