Dyson Vacuum Reviews

Dyson Ltd is a British company founded in 1993 by James Dyson, an inventor and industrial designer. In the late 1970's Mr Dyson had the idea of cyclonic separation as a means of replacing the vacuum bag. After many years and many prototypes he managed to get his design licensed by a Japanese company. He used the money from the license to set up his own manufacturing company and today Dyson has become one of the best-known vacuum cleaner brands in the world. There are Dyson uprights, canisters and handheld/stick-vacs and they tend to be expensive.

Dyson V8 vs V10
With the release of the Dyson Cyclone V10 cordless stick vacuum many consumers are pondering whether or not to buy its predecessor the V8 or to try the new kid on the block, the V10.  In this article we analyze, discuss and test both vacuums in order to answer that question.

Avg. consumer rating = 87/100

The Dyson V7 Trigger handheld vacuum is designed for quick pickups around the home and is also handy for cleaning vehicle interiors.  It is light weight, easy to operate, and it did an admirable job of picking up all manner of debris from our tile floors and carpet.  The mini motorized tool also proved capable at pulling up pet hair.  Run time (in low power mode) is quite long for a cordless vacuum and our tests showed that actual run times were even longer than the figures provided by Dyson.  Recharge time is also reasonable at only 3.5 hours.  However, the run time in Max mode is still rather short and we would have like to see a wall mount included in the package.

Dyson V7 Pros Cons

In this article we discuss some of the things we really like about the Dyson V7 and also some of the things we found lacking.  But first, a word on the different V7 stick vacuum models.  There are essentially 3 popular models of V7 cordless vacuums.  The Absolute, the Animal, and the Motorhead.  There is a 4th model called the V7 HEPA but it is exclusive only to dyson.com. Models are differentiated by the set of tools and cleaner heads provided, and also by the color scheme.

Dyson Cord Free Vacuum Battery Life

We get a lot of questions about the run time (or battery life) of the Dyson cordless stick vacuums.  This is understandable as the information is somewhat scattered and determining accurate figures is not an easy task.  However this is essential data if you want to know which vacuum might best fit your cleaning needs.  So we’ve put together tables and a video that highlight most of the important run time and suction power figures for the Dyson V10, the Dyson V8, the Dyson V7 and the Dyson V6.

Dyson V7 vs V8The Dyson V7 and the Dyson V8 are two of the most popular cordless stick vacuums on the market today.  While they are similar in many ways, they also differ in some important aspects - such as run time, suction power, battery specifications, weight, etc.  In this article we compare the two vacuums and we also test their cleaning abilities on bare floors and carpet.  We were a little surprised with some of our test results...

Dyson v10 Pros Cons

The Cyclone V10 is the latest cordless stick vacuum from Dyson and it is proving to be quite popular.  Its recent predecessors are the V6, V7, and V8 (there were also other Dyson stick vacs prior to these).  In this article we discuss the pros and cons of the Dyson V10.

Avg. consumer rating = 80/100

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is the latest in futuristic-looking stick vacuums from Dyson.  The cordless V10 looks slightly different than its predecessors the V6/V7/V8 due to a more air-flow efficient design, however it is still an attractive machine and many folks will proudly display this on the wall in their home. It has a Maximum Mode that generates 51% more power than the V6/V7 and 31% more than the V8.  Build quality is solid and it is a great fit for a smaller home or apartment.  However for deep cleaning and a larger home you may still want to have a full size vacuum available.  Despite the research and upgrades, like all stick vacs you cannot get a long enough run time with “deep cleaning” power to do a large area.  This is also a rather expensive vacuum.

Avg. consumer rating = 90/100

This vacuum is the smaller brother of the Dyson Ball Animal 2. Does that mean it is not as good? No – not necessarily. While the Dyson Ball Multi-Floor 2 has less suction than its big brother, it is also lighter, less expensive, and there is still more than enough suction for most cleaning jobs. In our opinion the Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 packs a punch and is actually a very good fit for some households. Consumers are pleased with the vacuum’s maneuverablity, capability on different surfaces, and easy maintenance. However, there are some issues, one of them being the machine’s difficulty in moving on some deep pile carpet. We see this on both the Multi-Floor and the Animal.

Dyson V7 Motorhead Review

Avg. consumer rating = 92/100

The Dyson V7 Motorhead, with its futuristic cyclonic cylinders and deep pink color, is a very striking stick vacuum. This machine cannot be mistaken for any other vacuum - but does it perform? If consumer ratings are any indicator then the answer is yes. Ratings for the V7 are very good and owners praise the unit for its light weight, power and convenience. Owners are also pleased that the vacuum is quiet, great for doing stairs, and able to clean carpet, rugs and bare floors. However, like many cordless vacuums, there are folks who feel the run time is inadequate for their cleaning needs. In addition, the V7 Motorhead, while great for quick cleanups, is not a full size vacuum and will struggle with larger more extensive cleaning jobs.

Ball Animal 2 pros & cons

In this article we highlight the pros and cons of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner.  The Ball Animal 2 is a fairly recent vacuum from Dyson and to date owner reviews and ratings are excellent.  In our detailed review (Dyson Ball Animal 2 Review) we scored the vacuum a very solid 94/100.  You can compare that to the scores of other upright vacuums in our upright vacuum ratings table or to all other vacuums on our site using the vacuum cleaner finder application.

Avg. consumer rating = 94/100

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is one of the latest upright vacuums in the Dyson stable.  The term “Animal” is intended to highlight its capabilities in households with pets, however there may be another reason.  This vacuum cleaner is something of a beast.  It is hugely powerful and also a bit of a handful to wield.  Is this is a good thing?  Well, for the most part it is good but in some cases it isn’t.  The machine’s colossal suction ensures top notch cleaning of pet hair, bare floors, carpet, etc. but the weight of the vacuum makes it a little cumbersome despite the added maneuverabiity of “Ball Technology”.

Dyson V8 Pros ConsIn this article we highlight the pros and cons of the Dyson V8 Absolute stick vacuum.  The V8 is a popular machine and it is getting very good reviews and ratings from owners.  It is Dyson's next generation of stick vac after the V6, and there have been some significant changes.  In our detailed review we scored the V8 a very high 94/100 which placed it near the top of the stick vacuums on our website (see stick vacuum ratings).

Avg. consumer rating = 94/100

We just got our hands on the Dyson V8 Absolute cordless stick vacuum and have been running the machine through its paces.  For the most part, we’ve been impressed.  The V8 is a lightweight vacuum that is both a stick vacuum and a handheld.  It is maneuverable, easy to empty and very powerful for a cordless (in High Power Mode).  It includes an assortment of tools in addition to 2 specialized cleaning heads; one for carpet and one for bare floors.  It also sports a HEPA filter and a new hygienic system for removing debris from the dust canister.  Is it better than the still-popular Dyson V6 Absolute?  In our opinion, in many ways it is.

Dyson V6 Pros ConsThe Dyson V6 Absolute is a very popular stick vacuum at this time and we have also rated it the best "top-end" stick vacuum in 2016 (see our Best Stick Vacuums list).  We have reviewed the vacuum in detail here - Dyson V6 Absolute Review - but thought it might be helpful to put together a few quick videos highlighting the machine's pros and cons.  In the videos we address things like size of the dust canister, emptying the dust canister, filters, suction power, battery life, size of the vacuum, cleaning ability on pet hair, and several other areas.  The Absolute is the pinnacle of the V6 series of vacuums (2017 update: there is now a newer V8) and if you are in the market for one of these machines the videos in this article should help you better understand what you can expect.

Dyson V6 Mattress Handheld Vacuum

Avg. consumer rating = 92/100

The Dyson V6 Mattress is much more than a handheld vacuum for mattresses.  This powerful unit is really an all-round handheld which happens to include, amongst its tools, a mattress tool as well as a HEPA filter and whole machine filtration.  In addition, it’s powerful motor makes it capable of pulling up all manner of debris from sofas, mats, pillows, blankets, car seats, and yes, mattresses.  The V6 mattress gets very good reviews and ratings from owners and it has a solid, durable feel to it.  It is a little on the expensive side however, and it also doesn’t come with a wall mounting unit.

Avg. consumer rating = 90/100

In this review we take a look at the relatively new Dyson V6 Absolute cordless vacuum.  The Absolute is Dyson’s top-of-the-line cordless vacuum and consumer ratings are excellent.  It differs from the other V6 machines in the tools/attachments that are included and the level of filtration it provides.

While each V6 comes with a different package, what really sets the Absolute apart is the fact that it comes with two cleaner heads – the Direct-drive cleaner head for carpet, and the Soft roller cleaner head for hard floors (soft woven red & blue nylon sections that envelop debris and black anti-static carbon fibre filaments to remove fine dust). It also has a HEPA post motor filter, something none of the other V6’s have.

Avg. consumer rating = 91/100

We recently got our hands on the new Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal + Allergy upright vacuum cleaner.  Dyson is known for pushing the boundaries of technology and this machine is no exception.  Not only is it bagless, but it also has no filters to clean or replace. All you have to do is empty the dust canister once in a while.

Avg. consumer rating = 87/100

Never has a vacuum cleaner elicited so many “I love it” and “I hate it” consumer comments at the same time.  There are many 5 star ratings but also quite a few 1 or 2 star reviews.  Owners praise the vacuum for its strong suction, ability to pick up pet hair, easy maintenance, and low profile nozzle, however there are also comments that the dust canister has to be emptied frequently, the hose is short and the nozzle is hard to move on bare floors.

Dyson DC65 Animal

 Avg. consumer rating = 94/100

The DC65 is Dyson's latest upright vacuum and is the replacement for the DC41.  This is a full size upright and consumer ratings to date are fantastic.  The DC65 animal is very powerful and the suction, amplified by an active base plate system in the nozzle, is tremendous on both bare floors and carpet.  The vacuum also performs well on pet hair and it comes with Dyson's tangle-free turbine tool.  The vacuum is expensive however and the price is often over $500. It is also a little on the heavy side at over 17 lbs.

Avg. consumer rating = 92/100

Note: This is now known as the Dyson V6.  In some ways Dyson are the Apple of the vacuum world. They create innovative, exciting products designed to capture your imagination. The DC59 does not disappoint - it is versatile, light weight, portable and able to operate as an upright or handheld. It is bagless, cordless and has a lifetime filter, making consumables a thing of the past. In addition, the vacuum is capable on carpet, bare floors, upholstery and even pet hair. But you pay for such a product and it is one of the more expensive stick vacs on the market today.

Dyson Hard DC56 Vacuum Cleaner

Avg. consumer rating = 79/100

Dyson touts the new Hard DC56 as the first machine that uses a wet-wipe and vacuums at the same time. There may be a reason for this - it is hard to get this configuration to be effective. Overall we'd have to say that this machine has been something of a disappointment to consumers, and even to some die-hard Dyson fans. It is expensive, leaves streaks and the vacuum component, when used with the wipe plate, is a bit weak. All is not lost however as the machine is useful for light cleaning of smaller areas, and the handheld component works well.

Dyson DC50 Animal Review

Avg. consumer rating = 88/100

The Dyson DC50 Animal is the latest upright in the Dyson stable.  Consumer ratings are quite good to date, but bear in mind the vacuum has only been on the market in the US for a few short months (at the time of this writing).  The DC50 is compact compared with previous Animal uprights and this results in a very lightweight and maneuverable machine.  The vacuum also uses Dyson Ball Technology and includes several tools, such as the new tangle-free turbine tool.  Owners report that the DC50 is effective on pet hair but some feel the dust canister is too small and that it is perhaps a bit too expensive.

Dyson DC44 Animal

Avg. consumer rating = 85/100

The Dyson DC44 Animal is Dyson'’s latest stick/handheld vacuum cleaner and it is essentially an upgraded Dyson DC35 Digital Slim.  Upgrades include a more powerful floor tool, increased run time and a motorized tool for pulling up pet hair.  Consumers praise the vacuum for its strong suction and versatility but most also feel that it is quite expensive.
