Features
Like all S2 vacuums the Titan is powered by a 1200 Watt vortex motor. This motor has a life expectancy of 1200 hours and as a result Miele provide a rather lengthy 7 year warranty (for the motor alone). The Titan also comes with a rotary dial that allows one to adjust the motor speed (suction). There are six different speed settings (200 Watts to 1200 Watts) and these provide optimal cleaning suction for draperies and upholstery through to rugs and carpeting, and at the highest setting, bare floors.
The S2 comes with robust filtration in the form of an Active HEPA filter (it is the only S2 series vacuum that comes standard with HEPA filtration). The HEPA filter captures 99.97% of all particles with a diameter of 0.3 microns or larger. This removes allergens like pollen or dust mite feces and is often sought after by those with asthma or allergies. The Active component of the filter alludes to activated charcoal which removes odours from the air. The Active HEPA filter only needs to be changed about every 12 months (or after about 50 hours of use).
The Miele S2180 Titan is packaged with 2 floor tools. The SEB217 Electro Comfort powerbrush and the SBB-3 Parquet Floor Brush. The powerbrush is an electrically driven carpet tool that is recommended for low and medium pile carpet. It has a 10.5 inch cleaning path and is highly maneuverable. The SBB-3 is for bare floors (like wood and tile) and comes with genuine horse hair bristles.
Other features on the Titan include a dust bag change indicator (to let you know when the bag is full) and a retractable power cord. Consumers have indicated they very much like the retractable power cord (activated via a foot pedal) however there is grumbling about the length of the power cord which is some 21 feet. Many consumers feel this is a little short. Although all vacuums in this series have the same length of cord. The vacuum bags for the Titan are Type G/N and have a capacity of 4.76 quarts (same for all S2 vacuums). This is quite large and is a higher capacity than the vacuum bags for the S4 vacuum series (although it is the same for the Miele S5 vacuums). The Type G/N vacuum bags are very strong and they have a self locking collar to ensure no dust escapes upon removal. Some consumer have complained that the bags are little pricey however. A quick look on Amazon indicates that the bags go for about 4+USD. Although these are usually manufactured by Miele - if one digs around there are "Miele type" bags made by other manufacturers that are less expensive (the efficacy of these we cannot attest to however and one would liekly wish to do some research first).
A crevice tool, a dusting brush and an upholstery tool are also provided. Consumers have indicated that the tools are effective but compact. They are attached to the vacuum via a clip on the hose. The hose itself is crush proof and according to Miele it can be can be stepped-on, run-over, bent, etc. and it will revert back to its normal shape. The Titan also comes with an automatic safety shutoff to ensure no motor or belt damage in the case of an obstruction and possible overheating. A stainless steel electric telescopic wand is also included.
The canister body is balanced on three 360 degree swivel wheels providing a high level of maneuverability, and the motor and the high-impact ABS vacuum casing have a 7-year warranty while the remainder of the vacuum carries a 1-year limited warranty. The Titan has a distinctive Chili Red finish.
