Avg. consumer rating = 78/100

The Dirt Devil M082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum is another in the line of love it or hate it vacuum cleaners.  It is a bagless, HEPA vacuum that some consumer like for it’s ability to clean hard surfaces and it’s lightweight, low noise and reasonably low cost (for a canister).  However detractors feel that the vacuum under-performs on carpet, has poorly designed attachments and a very small dust container.

The Dirt Devil M082700, sometimes referred to as the Dirt Devil 082700, is a bagless vacuum.  Meaning that it uses a dust container instead of disposable bags.  You can read about bagged and bagless vacuums in our Vacuum Guide It is also HEPA capable, which means it uses a HEPA filter (high efficiency particulate air) that is capable of removing at least 99.97 percent of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers or larger.  These filters are used for many applications in the nuclear and biomedical industries but have more recently found a home in the newer vacuum cleaner models.  They are especially helpful to those suffering from asthma and allergies.

Dirt Devil's Vision Canister Vacuum has a 12-amp motor with variable speed control (in the handle) for managing suction power on different surfaces.  It comes with a turbo floor tool that Dirt Devil claim mechanically agitates dirt or spills and allows the debris to be more efficiently sucked up.  The M082700 also comes with a 6 foot stretch hose, a number of other on-board tools, a 20 foot auto-retractable cord and a nozzle width of 11 inches (the cord an nozzle width seem undersized compared to some of the other vacuums we’ve reviewed).  The unit also has a 2-year warranty.

Consumer reviews for the Dirt Devil are respectable (as can be seen by the ratings in the table below) however we have seen better rating figures with some of the other vacuums we have reviewed.

A review of consumer comments indicates the following common pros and cons (or likes and dislikes) of the M082700.

PROS
- Good on tile and hard wood floors
- Good suction
- Auto cord rewind
- Reasonably compact & light  – easy to store
- Adjustable suction controls on handle
- Not too loud
- Not too expensive

CONS
- Not very good on carpet (several consumer comments about this)
- Dust container is small (many comments about this)
- Attachments do not work well
- Attachments fall off (the wand) frequently

If we can take anything away from the consumer comments, they tend to indicate that this vacuum is not a good choice if you intend to do a lot of carpet vacuuming.   It appears to be better suited for hardwood floors.  There are a number of people that indicate they really like this vacuum as it is light, works well on hard surfaces and is not too expensive, but having said that there are quite a few folks – especially those with lots of carpet - that feel that this was not the best suited vacuum cleaner for their needs.
