Dirt Devil makes quite a few funky looking vacuum cleaners.  The Dirt Devil MBV2030 Rechargeable Broom Vacuum is no exception.  This device is essentially a combination broom and vacuum cleaner and comes in a myriad of colours from basic black or white to plum, seabreeze or butter yellow (and more).  Is this the best vacuum cleaner?  Let's review the features and consider what consumers report...

The Dirt Devil Broom Vacuum is meant to be a simple vacuum to help with quick jobs the like of spilled dry cereal, or pet hair, or dust on hard floors such as linoleum, wood, marble or tile.  The vacuum is not meant for wet spills or soggy materials.  It is also not meant to replace your everyday vacuum cleaner - it does not have the suction or the versatility.  It is easy to assemble (out of the box) and simple to maintain -– empty dirt cup, changer filter occasionally and recharge.

The most successful means of applying the vacuum cleaner is to simply use it as a broom, then when the dust has been swept into a pile, use the foot switch (so you don’t have to bend over) to turn it on and suck up the dust (to do this you need to hold the vacuum in an upright position over the debris).  Some consumers describe the device as a broom with an automatic dustpan.

The Broom Vacuum is cordless and when the charge runs out you recharge it by plugging in the adaptor – pretty standard.  The charge has been estimated to be about 45 minutes.  It sucks up dirt through a 10-inch wide nozzle and some consumers feel that the unit has sufficient sucking power, however it should be noted that the majority of folks have indicated that the vacuum is not powerful enough.

The bristles of the broom, while allowing the user to “sweep” up debris, are quite short and stiff and make getting under corners and hard to reach places difficult.  The broom brush also needs to be cleaned often as it tends to trap a fair bit of dust, but there is consensus that the vacuum is good at picking up animal hairs.  Also, as mentioned, maintenance and cleanup are quite straightforward and the filters are also easy to change out and not too expensive – about USD7.00.

A common issue with those who bought the vacuum cleaner is the weight – many feel it is surprisingly heavy.  The vacuum weighs about 3.5 lbs or about 1.6 kg.  Frankly speaking this is pretty light for a vacuum cleaner but it is likely that users are really comparing this to a real broom as it is handled much in the same fashion.
