Avg. consumer rating = 83/100

The Electrolux Ergospace Green gets fairly good reviews and is lightweight, easy to maneuver and very quiet.  It works well on hardwood floors and is environmentally friendly being made in part of recycled plastic.  The vacuum is also packed in unbleached recycled cardboard. The brushbar is air-driven however and while the Ergospace is effective on bare floors some owners report that it does not excel on carpet.

A number of consumer ratings were found and these are recorded in the table below:

 Overstock  4 stars out of 5  1

A review of consumer comments provided the following common Ergospace likes and dislikes:

PROS
- Variable suction feature works well
- Retractable power cord
- Long hose
- Very quiet
- Easy to maneuver
- Lightweight
- Construction uses recycled plastic

CONS
- Short power cord
- Manual is not that great
- Some folks find it a little hard to push on carpet
- Only average cleaning ability on carpet (best on hard surfaces)
- Some owners complain of hot exhaust air blowing upwards (exhaust is vertical – some folks like this some do not)

This vacuum has a lot of admirers but it also has a number of detractors.  Owner ratings range considerably and there are quite a few 5 out of 5 ratings but there are also a number of poorer ratings giving the machine 1 or 2 stars out of 5.  Some consumers seem very pleased with the suction generated by the Electrolux Ergospace, but others feel it is weak.  Also, a small number of owners complain about the exhaust blowing up and out the top of the vacuum while others report liking this design as it ensures the exhaust does not blow dust or debris away from the vacuum.

Owners generally agree that the power cord is a little short, that the machine is quiet and maneuverable, and that it is very light and also has a long hose.  In addition, it is reported to be effective on bare floors but less so on carpet.  Most folks say it is adequate on area rugs or small carpeted areas but for larger carpeted areas (or for higher pile carpet) it is not up to the task.  We also note that this vacuum does not have a powered brushbar - the brushbar is driven by the vacuum suction (air driven brushbar).  Air driven brushbars are often not as effective on carpet as motor driven brushbars.

The Electrolux Ergospace is a bagged vacuum and is powered by a 10 amp motor.  The Ergospace is marketed as environmentally friendly as 55% of the black plastic used in the construction of the unit is recycled and 80% of the vacuum packaging is recycled, unbleached cardboard.  In addition, after the useful life of the machine up to 90% of it is recyclable.  Finally, the printed material provided with the vacuum (quick start guide, safety instructions, etc) is printed on recycled paper.

Tools and attachments that come with the vacuum include:
- 3-in-1 combination tool (combines crevice tool, dusting brush, and upholstery tool)
- Low-pile carpet turbo tool (air driven)
- carpet/hard-floor nozzle

The carpet/hard-floor nozzle has a lever on the front with 2 settings (visible in the image to the right).  On setting 1 the nozzle works best on hard floors while on setting 2 the nozzle is designed to work on carpet.  Elextrolux states the low-pile carpet turbo tool can also be used on carpet and provides a “deeper cleaning”.

The power cord on this unit is a little short at 21 feet.  We believe a longer power cord – like 30 feet or more – is best.  However the telescopic tube, handle, nozzle and 9 foot hose combine to give the vacuum a more respectable 34 foot cleaning reach.  The power cord on the Ergospace is also retractable, a popular feature on any vacuum cleaner.

The Electrolux EL4101A is a lightweight vacuum and the canister itself weighs only about 13 lbs.  With all the accessories and attachments the unit is still not particularly heavy.  A number of owners have commented on how easy it is to move the vacuum.  It also sports a handle which makes lifting and moving easier.

The cleaning path width of the vacuum is 10 inches and it also has variable suction control. There is a suction control dial on the canister (ranges from min to max) and an additional suction control located conveniently on the vacuum handle.  Owners report liking this feature.

Like most full size vacuums today the Electrolux Ergospace Green Canister Vacuum comes with a HEPA filter.  The HEPA filter on this machine is washable (although Electrolux indicates that it should be replaced about every 6 months or so).  HEPA filters help to remove small particles such as dust mite feces, pet dander, pollens, etc. from the air and are very popular with consumers who suffer from asthma or allergies.

The Ergospace is a bagged vacuum and the bags have a capacity of about 2 dry quarts.  Owners also describe the vacuum as very quiet and specifications on this unit put the motor noise level at approximately 70dB.  Other vacuum features include a large power on/off button on the canister as well as a large auto-cord rewind button on the canister.

The vacuum is both ETL certified and UL listed.  ETL is a group that performs electrical and reliability tests on products to ensure they meet US product safety standards. They also audit the manufacturing site and require that the applicant agrees to future factory inspections to ensure continued adherence to the standards. ETL operates nationally recognized testing laboratories.  UL stands for Underwriters' Laboratories which is a nonprofit, independent product safety certification organization in the US.
