Electrolux EL6985B Harmony Ultra Quiet Canister Vacuum Review
- Details
Avg. consumer rating = 78/100
The Electrolux EL6985B is an interesting approach to a vacuum cleaner (it is similar to the EL6984A), focusing on reducing the vacuum noise level. We wish this was an idea more vacuum cleaner manufacturers would consider. Electrolux has clearly been successful in making the EL6985B quiet given consumer comments - but how does it stand up to the competition with respect to other key features?
The Electrolux Harmony is touted as one of the worlds quietest vacuums and consumers report that indeed this is so. Some consumer comments include hardly makes a noise, I have a 3 year old and a 6 month old and I could never vacuum when they were asleep. Now I can. I would have to say the best part is how quiet it is, I was amazed at how quiet this is. The list goes on. According to Electrolux they have sound insulated the motor, provided a low-noise floor nozzle and even provided super quiet soft wheels in an effort to limit the noise from the vacuum cleaner.
A review of consumer comments indicate the following common likes and dislikes about the Electrolux Harmony:
PROS
- Extremely quiet
- Lightweight
- Strong suction
- Small, compact and easily maneuverable
- Has HEPA filter
CONS
- Attachments look flimsy
- Small bag capacity
- Suction driven beater bar limits effectiveness on rugs
- Cord is a little short

More Electrolux Harmony Features
The Electrolux EL6985B Harmony is a bagged, canister vacuum cleaner and comes with an indictor that lets you know when the bag is nearing capacity. As with many bagged machines there are reports that suction begins to decrease as the bag fills. In the world of vacuum cleaners there seem to be bagged aficionados and bagless aficionados. There are pros and cons to each approach and you can read more about these in our Vacuum Guide. As mentioned, the EL6985B is also a canister vacuum. Historically canister vacuums have been better (than uprights) for hard surfaces and tend to be quieter although they tend to be slightly more expensive. Most of these points are true of the EL6985B. It is also easier to vacuum stairs with a canister vacuum, and due to their lower profile it is often easier to get under furniture. The uprights tend to be better at cleaning carpets and (sometimes) are less expensive.
Electrolux EL6985B Harmony Ultra Quiet Canister Vacuum is also equipped with a washable HEPA H12 filter. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is a filter that removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it. HEPA filtration is particularly popular with allergy sufferers.
Other features of this vacuum cleaner include variable motor speed control (ability to adjust suction power from low to high), a foot operated height adjustment switch on the floor nozzle for transitioning from one surface to another, on-board tools (Combo, crevice, caddy), telescoping wand, and a 2 year parts and labor warranty. The unit has an 11 inch cleaning path, is approximately 18 inches high and 9.5 inches deep, and weighs in at 12lbs.
