Hoover UH30010COM Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Canister
- Details
Avg. consumer rating = 86/100
This is a very popular upright and it is a bagged vacuum which we are seeing less of these days. It also comes with a supplementary canister vacuum that you can wear over your shoulder. This machine gets high marks for power, maneuverability, lightweight construction, and a 5-year warranty. There is very little negative written about the Hoover UH30010COM. However one should know that the brushroll in the upright cannot be turned off.
What are Consumer's Saying?
Pros
Lifetime LED headlight and belt, very easy to maneuver, excellent carpet cleaning ability, HEPA system, 35 foot cord.
Cons
No feature to turn the brush roll on or off (a little tricky if you want to use this on nice hardwood floors). Bags are a little pricey (but they are very large).

Bagged vs Bagless
The Hoover UH30010COM is a bagged vacuum cleaner. It does not use a dirt-container like many of the bagless machines today, but instead uses a disposable bag. There is a long standing debate about bagged or bagless vacuum cleaners being better bagged tend to make it easier to dispose of the collected dirt and it is cleaner to throw away the bag and put a new one in. Bagless do not require purchasing and throwing away bags but it should be noted that they often have filters that need to be maintained or replaced and they rely on seals to prevent the dirt-container from leaking.
HEPA
The Hoover UH30010COM Platinum also utlizes a HEPA filter. What is a HEPA filter? HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is a filter that removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it. When considering a HEPA vacuum cleaner it is important that the unit passes ALL intake air through the HEPA filter prior to exhausting it otherwise particulate matter is bypassing the filter and being introduced back into the surrounding environment. HEPA filtration is particularly popular with allergy sufferers. This vacuum cleaner has a Type Q upright HEPA bag (for the upright), and a Type I portable canister HEPA bag (for the included canister).
Features & Accessories
This vacuum cleaner features a respectably powerful 12 amp motor (many of the vacuums today have a 12 amp motor but some do not). It uses the Hoover Windtunnel Technology which, according to Hoover, means that it lifts and traps dirt very efficiently without any scattering. There are illuminated fingertip controls for on and off as well as two different speed settings. There is also a light to indicate when the bag needs to be changed. It also has a 14 inch wide nozzle and automatic height adjustment. It weighs less than 12 lbs and measures 15.5 x 13 x 45 inches. In addition, this machine has a supplementary canister with a carrying strap and a 25 foot cord. The canister carries the crevice and brush attachments on board.

MARCH 2016 UPDATE
As this is one of the most popular vacuums on our site and also one of our Best Upright Vacuum picks we decided to do a quick update on consumer sentiment for the Hoover UH30010COM. At the time of the initial review consumer comments regarding the vacuum were not plentiful (although those available were very favorable). It has been almost seven years since our first review and this vacuum has received much attention from consumers during that time. Here we update the Consumer Ratings table and the Pros and Cons.
In 2009 this vacuum rated 92/100 and it is now rating 86/100. In our experience this is not too large a drop given the time frame (as vacuums get older they inevitably experience more problems and owners often write in to retail outlets to express their frustration - ie provide a low rating).
