Hoover UH30010COM Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Canister

Avg. consumer rating = 86/100

This is a very popular upright and it is a bagged vacuum which we are seeing less of these days. – It also comes with a supplementary canister vacuum that you can wear over your shoulder.  This machine gets high marks for power, maneuverability, lightweight construction, and a 5-year warranty.  There is very little negative written about the Hoover UH30010COM.  However one should know that the brushroll in the upright cannot be turned off.

What are Consumer's Saying?

Lifetime LED headlight and belt, very easy to maneuver, excellent carpet cleaning ability, HEPA system, 35 foot cord.

No feature to turn the brush roll on or off (a little tricky if you want to use this on “nice” hardwood floors).  Bags are a little pricey (but they are very large).

Bagged vs Bagless

The Hoover UH30010COM is a bagged vacuum cleaner.  It does not use a dirt-container like many of the bagless machines today, but instead uses a disposable bag. There is a long standing debate about bagged or bagless vacuum cleaners being better – bagged tend to make it easier to dispose of the collected dirt and it is cleaner to throw away the bag and put a new one in.  Bagless do not require purchasing and throwing away bags but it should be noted that they often have filters that need to be maintained or replaced and they rely on seals to prevent the dirt-container from leaking.

The Hoover UH30010COM Platinum also utlizes a HEPA filter.  What is a HEPA filter?  HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is a filter that removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it.  When considering a HEPA vacuum cleaner it is important that the unit passes ALL intake air through the HEPA filter prior to exhausting it – otherwise particulate matter is bypassing the filter and being introduced back into the surrounding environment.  HEPA filtration is particularly popular with allergy sufferers.  This vacuum cleaner has a Type Q upright HEPA bag (for the upright), and a Type I portable canister HEPA bag (for the included canister).

Features & Accessories

This vacuum cleaner features a respectably powerful 12 amp motor (many of the vacuums today have a 12 amp motor but some do not).  It uses the Hoover Windtunnel Technology – which, according to Hoover, means that it lifts and traps dirt very efficiently without any scattering.  There are illuminated fingertip controls for on and off as well as two different speed settings.  There is also a light to indicate when the bag needs to be changed.  It also has a 14 inch wide nozzle and automatic height adjustment.  It weighs less than 12 lbs and measures 15.5 x 13 x 45 inches.  In addition, this machine has a supplementary canister with a carrying strap and a 25 foot cord. The canister carries the crevice and brush attachments on board.

There are quite a few more features on this vacuum as well.  See total list below:

-Hoover handheld canister vacuum
-Tool bracket
-Telescoping extension wand
-Floor brush / Dusting brush / Crevice tool
-Carry strap for canister
-Type Q upright HEPA bag
-Type I portable canister HEPA bag
-Upright & Canister owner's manuals

As this is one of the most popular vacuums on our site and also one of our “Best Upright Vacuum” picks we decided to do a quick update on consumer sentiment for the Hoover UH30010COM.  At the time of the initial review consumer comments regarding the vacuum were not plentiful (although those available were very favorable).  It has been almost seven years since our first review and this vacuum has received much attention from consumers during that time.  Here we update the Consumer Ratings table and the Pros and Cons.

In 2009 this vacuum rated 92/100 and it is now rating 86/100.  In our experience this is not too large a drop given the time frame (as vacuums get older they inevitably experience more problems and owners often write in to retail outlets to express their frustration - ie provide a low rating).

Ratings Updated March 2016
 Source  Consumer Rating  #Ratings
 Amazon  4.3 stars out of 5  1961

 Target  4 stars out of 5  175

As can be seen above, with close to 3000 consumer ratings this vacuum continues to get a solid score (86 out of 100).

I own this Hoover Platinum upright and canister. As someone who has had both commercial and residential floor equipment. I can tell you hands down this vac is incredible and can do as good if not better than a commercial vac. What you need to keep in mind is MAINTAINENCE. You must periodically clean the rollers and brushes of thread, hair, fuzz, etc. if you want your unit to last! Change the bag when the dirt gets to the line on the bag. Take care of it, it will do it’s job a long time.

I have had this vacuum since they first came out and I love it. Good cleaning, easy bag change, and quiet. I have had two or three times the on/off button did not work but after tapping it a couple of times with a heavy table knife it started working again. My only real complaint is that you have to order the bags online as nobody local carries the bags. My wife complains because she wants the hose on the upright but I still prefer the small canister because of the ease of use.

Your vacuum Cleaner should have a
12 amp motor. and the straighter
your hose is to your bag or your
canister the stronger the suction

This vacuum is amazingly light and it has incredible suction power. I come from using a bagless vacuum...and NEVER again will I ever put up with the disgusting mess of dust and dirt and cleaning out those awful filters! Uuugh!

This vacuum works very well and the bags are 99.7% effective at trapping dust ..and I do notice no \"poofs of dust\" while vacuuming or turning it on or off.

I like the the separate canister, because you can use it in places like your car...above your curtain rods or in high places that you would not have to handle a huge old vacuum with hoses attached to do so. It frankly is just more practical. Just adjust the strap to your body size and you will see how effective it is as functioning with cleaning your home.

Well done Hoover...

Let\'s just hope the machine last well over 5 years or so..

Hoover UH30010COM Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Canister

we bought one of these, and don\'t know why anyone would have said that the little one hasn\'t got enough suction. It is just great. and found some bags on amazon for a great price.

We got it at Sears. At this store, they gave us their on-line price in the store, the best price we found anywhere!!
So, thanks for your evaluations. It really helped us decide what we wanted. and I thought, hey, why would I even look at anything less than the top 10!

In the features & Accessories section above it says \"This vacuum cleaner features a respectably powerful 12 amp motor\". I turned the vacuum over and along with the model number on the plate it says \"120V. 60 Hz. 5.5 A.\"
Any comments?

The Hoover website lists the motor amps correctly as 5.5.

The 12 amp claim is for some reason the sum of the upright plust the cannister. The upright is really on 5.5 amps and the canister is around 7 amps.

We just bought a Hoover Platinum--Upright bagged because of the great reviews. But we are having a problem. After vacuunming for about 1 minuite, the vacuum turns itself off and the on/off switch blinks. After pushing the button to start again, in about 10 or 20 seconds it turns off again. We tried re-attaching the bag. There is dirt in the bag, so I don\'t think there are any blockages.

It is Saturday, so we can\'t try calling customaer service. Any ideas?

As with Europa_rising\'s comment, we just bought the Hoover Platinum and after 3 minutes the vacuum kept volunteering to turn off. The switch did not blink @ all. I inspected all components wondering if a piece of stryofoam had caused the block and the sensor to shut the machine off, but there was nothing. I am taking this product back as defective.

After reading the glowing reviews on the Hoover UH30010COM upright vacuum, I purchased one from Amazon.

Everything you have read about this vacuum is true. It is unbelieveably good. Kudos to the engineers at Hoover. They seemed to have addressed every vacuum cleaner user\'s wishlist.

The vacuum is quiet, powerful, and able to out clean every vacuum I have ever used. We have area rugs on hardwood floors with a menagerie of dogs and cats. This vacuum sucks up dog and cat hair along with every other particle.

I purchased the Hoover UH30010COM a week ago from Amazon and so far I must say that the reviews are pretty accurate. This is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever bought. We have several cats and lots of carpet. Our house in now cleaner than it has ever been before. It is also comforting knowing we have a 6 year warranty should anything go wrong. We are Dyson converts and I think we are going to stick with Hoover for a while.
